At New Tech Network (“NTN”), we take the privacy of the participants in our ground-breaking 21st century educational services seriously. Please read this Privacy Statement to learn more about how we treat personally identifiable information. We provide this Privacy Statement because you have a right to know what information we collect, how it is protected and used, and the circumstances under which it may be disclosed. Online Privacy Standards

While there are no official standards governing privacy practices on the internet, we follow the principles supported by the Federal Trade Commission's Fair Information Practices Principles, currently available at http://www.ftc.gov/reports/privacy3/fairinfo.shtm.

What This Statement Covers

This Statement covers NTN’s treatment of personally identifiable information that we obtain when you visit our website, www.newtechnetwork.org, and when you become a user of our services through one of our school or school district alliances. We regard personally identifiable information as information that can be used to identify or contact you in person, such as your real name, telephone number, birth date, email address, or physical mailing address.

What This Statement Does Not Cover

A key feature of NTN’s services is provided through alliances with partner schools and school districts (“Network Schools”). Please note that this Statement does not cover the privacy practices of third parties that we do not own or control, such as the Network Schools. In addition, we may provide links to other third-party websites that may interest our users. All of these third-party sites, including the Network School sites, operate independently of NTN and they have their own privacy or security practices. For your best on-line experience, we encourage you to review their policies before submitting any personal information to them.


HOW AND WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED

Information Provided By Network Schools

Network Schools provide NTN with information that is necessary for NTN’s system to work for each Network School enrolled in the service. The information provided by Network Schools is limited to faculty name, faculty email address, student name, student email address, student graduation year and, of course, the identity of the Network school itself. Some Network Schools also elect to provide a student identification number to NTN, however, this information is not a requirement of using the NTN services. The information provided by the Network School may be updated from time to time over the course of the program services.



Information Provided In Discussion Boards

Information may be provided in a discussion board operated through the service. This information may be collected by NTN. Discussion boards are open forums in which users of the service participate. The information provided in the discussion boards is open for other registered users of the service from a particular Network School depending on the user’s access level. For example, a teacher can view the discussion board activity of all students in that particular teacher’s Network School.

Information Provided In The NTN Resource Library

NTN also maintains an online document library featuring articles and other documents. This library is freely available online, even to those without user accounts, and may be viewed globally by anyone with Internet access. You may submit articles or other documents for inclusion in this library by sending an email. Because of the open nature of the document library, NTN does not advise that you include any personally identifiable information in any submission to the document library.

Information Provided In A Survey

On occasion, NTN conducts surveys to help evaluate our services and improve the services we provide. The information collected through surveys is voluntary and is treated according to the terms of any particular survey issued by NTN.

We Do Not Collect Information Directly Through Our Website

Any user can visit our website at www.newtechnetwork.org without providing any identifying information. If you would like to customize your experience and take advantage of many of the features of the NTN service, however, you will first need to be registered through one of our Network Schools.


INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

Children Under 13

As explained further in our Terms of Service, NTN’s services are intended for users ages thirteen (13) years and older only. You must be at least thirteen (13) years of age or older to use NTN’s service, or you must have the consent of a parent or guardian in order to use the service. 

NTN does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow Network Schools to create user information for such persons. In the event that we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a person under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we have information from or about anyone under 13 years of age, please notify us by email at privacydirector@newtechnetwork.org and/or write to us at the address noted above in the opening paragraph of this Privacy Statement.

Children Between the Ages of 13 and 18

We recommend that minors over the age of thirteen (13) ask their parents for permission before sending any information about themselves to anyone over the internet. 

Social Security Number, Physical Address, Birth date. We do not ask for or require your social security number, your physical (real world) address, or your birth date to use any of our services or to access our site. 

Log Files, Cookies, And The Like. We do not use log files, cookies, clear gifs, web beacons, or other analytic tools to gather information about visitors to our site.


HOW INFORMATION IS USED

In NTN Communications

We use emails and/or prominent notifications on our website as our primary means to inform our users of important announcements and to distribute occasional newsletters.

System-related Announcements

We use your email address to deliver important system-related announcements. Some examples of system-related announcements include: requests to reset a password, important security or server maintenance updates, or changes to this Privacy Statement. These service-related announcements are considered a fundamental part of NTN’s service, and users cannot opt-out of these email announcements.



Newsletters

From time to time, NTN also communicates with users through a periodic newsletter (typically on a quarterly basis). These newsletters are sent by email and include a link back to our website where the newsletter appears. These newsletters are not a mandatory part of NTN’s services. If you do not wish to receive emails containing our newsletter link, please contact our Privacy Director at privacydirector@newtechnetwork.org.

Through Our Websites. Identification Of Users By Username

When using the NTN services through a Network School, users may upload information, such as a homework assignment, to the site. In these circumstances we will identify you by your username. This information is visible only to other users with the appropriate network access level and cannot be viewed system wide.

On Our Websites. Messages in Discussion Boards

Some of our features allow you to communicate with other users involved in your particular project by posting messages to a discussion board. Please be aware that what you write in these discussion boards can be viewed, collected or used by other users who are participating in your particular project . We are not responsible for any personally identifiable information that you submit or permit others to submit through discussion board messages. We strongly encourage you not to post such personally identifiable information to any discussion board.

The NTN Resource Library

As noted above, NTN also maintains the online NTN Resource Library featuring articles and other documents. Please be aware that this document library is freely available online, even to those without user accounts, and may be viewed globally by anyone with Internet access. NTN is not responsible for any personally identifiable information that you submit or permit others to submit to the NTN Resource Library. Because of the open nature of the resource library, NTN strongly encourages you not to post personally identifiable information to the NTN Resource Library.

With Your School Or School District, Students, and Staff

While NTN does not share your information with third parties, you should be aware that, at the direction of your Network School, NTN may share your information with your Network School’s employees, staff, and students

With Third Parties. Sharing, Renting, And Selling Information We Collect.

We do not share, rent or sell personally identifiable information we collect about our users or our user base.

Occasionally we share anonymous, non-personal, aggregate information about our user base with NTN’s Partners and in order to promote our service to others. We do not tie this data to your personally identifiable information.

As Necessary In Certain Legal Circumstances. Legal Requirements.

We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our website.

Acquisition or Other Transfer

If NTN is acquired, all of its assets, including user information, may be transferred to the acquiring company. At that time, your user information, including personally identifiable information, may become subject to the acquiring company’s Privacy Statement. In addition, in the event that we must liquidate our assets due to bankruptcy or other event, we will consider our subscriber and membership information, including personally identifiable information, as a unique asset subject to sale or other transfer. Before we transfer your information under any of these scenarios, we will notify you either by email or by posting a notice on our site.


HOW INFORMATION IS KEPT SECURE

Security of User Information

Your user information is password-protected. We will not share your password with anyone. Please do not share your password with anyone, and remember to change your password from time to time, to keep your user information secure.

Network Security

We have implemented a variety of commercially standard encryption and security technologies and procedures to protect information, including your personal information, stored in our computer systems from unauthorized access. Please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100 percent secure. While we strive to use the most reliable commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Management Procedures

We also maintain standard physical and electronic procedural safeguards that limit access to your personally identifiable information to our employees (including people working on our behalf and under confidentiality agreements) who, through the course of standard business activities, need to access your personally identifiable information.

Your Personal Choices

Sharing Information With Other Users. Your Network School has identified a system administrator who has access to control what personal information about you is shared with other users and what personal information is kept private. Your Network School can add, edit, and delete information stored in your user background. You must contact your Network School’s system administrator to add, edit, and/or delete information in your user background.

Editing, Updating, or Deleting User Profile Information

You can request changes to or the deletion of your personally identifiable information, by contacting your particular Network School administrator. If you are not sure who to contact at your Network School, please contact our Privacy Director at privacydirector@newtechnetwork.org and/or the mailing address noted in the opening paragraph of this Privacy Statement.


Updates to Our Privacy Statement

NTN’s services are evolving and developing. From time to time, we will review and make changes to our Privacy Statement. When we do so, we will notify you either by email or place a prominent notice on our website. The most recent version of our Privacy Statement is always available from a link on our homepage at www.newtechnetwork.org. We encourage you to visit this site frequently to stay up to date on our current Privacy Statement.
