Briniging Technolgy into the Classroom

How do you address a future that is already here? This question dominated conversation at The New York Times’s Schools
for Tomorrow conference, which focused on the most effective ways to introduce technology into colleges and schools.
Our institutions have some catching up to do. Whatever educators’ skills may be in using Facebook, Twitter, blogs or
YouTube, they can be certain that their students are already fluent.
Multiple groups hold a stake in this debate but there was a surprising consensus over several issues. We need to develop
compelling data on this subject in order to make informed decisions and win over the skeptics. We must acknowledge
the importance of context, for a tool that succeeds in one environment may fail in another (and vice versa). We must value
teachers because technology alone is useless. And we must be open: who knows what the future holds?
