‘Ahead of the Learning Curve:’ The name game

Some Central Coast students are finding that a perk of choosing to attend a new school is picking the school’s mascot.

Central Coast New Tech High School is set to open Aug. 16 on the south end of the Nipomo High School campus.

The approximately 150 incoming freshmen were privileged with submitting mascot ideas at the end of last school year, with finalists revealed at a meeting in May.

The New Tech Timberwolves, Olympians, Ninjas, Newts, Phoenix and Owls are up for consideration.

It doesn’t look like a mascot has been chosen yet, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for the New Tech Newts – with New Tech Ninjas a close second.

Such a sucker for the alliteration.
