BHS New Tech actively solves real world problems

Last Wednesday Belleville High School proudly invited citizens from virtually all aspects of life for a breakfast and presentation of the unique school-within-a-school, Belleville New Tech.

“We want to pull community leaders in to partner with Belleville New Tech to help our leaders of tomorrow,” New Tech Director Jason Butka said.
Bringing in a diverse mix of professional talent ranging from law enforcement to lawyers to librarians is in itself a huge part of the New Tech style of teaching.
Problem solving and discovery of efficient, new methods is far more successful if you deconstruct the subject and look at every sociological, technical, economic and educational aspect of it.

BHS Principal Michael VanTassel called New Tech’s teaching methods “a true transformation…in the ability of our future leaders to be able to handle the challenges of the twenty first century.”

For instance, in Mark Darket’s U.S. History Coming to America project, students will investigate not only how an immigrant came to our country but from where, why, and when.

Students could explore the economic and sociological triggers that lead to that person’s emigration or how they perceived the U.S. and their former country then and now.
