Educators, community hear about New Tech program

MASON CITY - The challenges of establishing a regional school academy in North Iowa were explored by education, community and business leaders on Monday.

Helping lead the search was Lee Fleming, a new school development and planning team director for New Tech Network, a company that created a program of learning that is project-based. Today, 86 schools have adopted the program. There are none in Iowa.

The Mason City and Clear Lake school districts - and possibly a third - are studying the concept and will decide whether the creation of such a school is feasible.

Chamber of Commerce, economic development, school board members, Area Education Agency Director Roark Horn, State Rep. Sharon Steckman and school administrators attended to learn about the program.
