When students filed into Sam Houston High School for the first day of school Monday, about one-third of them entered a new specialty program intended to help transform the troubled school.
Students in the New Tech program will be expected to collaborate on team projects that emphasize critical thinking and real-world applications.
In the New Tech lexicon, teachers are facilitators; students are learners. Lectures are a thing of the past.
“As a teacher, it looks different for me,” Darlene Carbajal told her first-period class, called principles of technology. “And as a student your role will be a little bit different as well.”
