Holland High School could be looking a lot more like New Tech High School in the future.
Holland Public Schools Superintendent Brian Davis emphasizes the two high schools will stay separate and different, but he is planning to integrate the technology-rich classrooms and project-based learning that characterize the New Tech system into Holland High School.
“Project-based learning will be integrated into the core curriculum over time,” Davis said. “Holland High School will continue its program excellence of honors, Advanced Placement classes and depth of extra-curricular programs.”
Project-based learning — which allows students to learn a course’s content by researching and working in groups on a project or problem — is set to eventually become part of the school district’s curriculum across the board, Davis said, as is increased use of technology.
“In fact, we are developing projects all of the way down to kindergarten,” he said. “Our technology pilot classrooms have been identified district-wide, and teachers will be coming together to begin their training next month.”
