Initial AYP results released

Only seven of Durham's 53 public schools met a key federal education standard, according to preliminary results released Thursday by the state Department of Public Instruction.

The schools in 2010-11 that made Adequate Yearly Progress as mandated by the No Child Left Behind statute included four high schools -- Josephine Clement Early College High School, City of Medicine Academy, Southern School of Engineering and Hillside New Tech High -- along with Fayetteville Street, R.N. Harris and Spring Valley elementary schools.
