Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) educators have understood
the importance of projectbased learning for decades, and
now the New Tech Network is supporting this learning style.
Pamela Deshotel of Bunkie High School in Louisiana was the
first FACS teacher selected to be part of this growing network of schools. New Tech Network collaborates with public high schools, districts, and communities to engage students in learning and teach 21st century skills to prepare for college and careers.
Bunkie High School has only been part of New Tech Network a short time, but already they are seeing results. “We had to change. What we were doing wasn’t working. Our cohort dropout rate was 52.7% which means only half of our entering freshman were graduating on time. Last year’s students performed better on standardized tests as compared to the previous four years.
We look for our success rate to improve substantially in the
years to come,” says Deshotel.
