With three weeks to go until school starts, workers are putting the finishing touches on ECISD’s newest high school.
New Tech Odessa has 230 students signed up for its first year of classes, principal Adrian Vega said. Junior and senior classes will be added during the next two years.
“The building’s getting ready, and the staff is getting ready to go on Aug. 22,” Vega said.
Workers are still updating the half of the Ector County Independent School District’s Advanced Technical Center building that New Tech will house. Seating is being placed in the hallways to give students an alternate place to learn.
“Obviously, we still have classroom space,” Vega said. “But, at the same time, they can work outside in the common area.”
Even before it opens, the school has worked to prepare students, Vega said. During the summer, New Tech played host to game and movie nights for its incoming students.
