Eighth-grader Billy Walters will be one of 131 incoming freshmen attending Niles New Tech Entrepreneurial Academy this fall.
The Ring Lardner Middle School student received a letter in the mail with the news from New Tech Dean Patrick Malley.
"He was thrilled, and I was thrilled," Bonita Walters, his mother, said. "He was really excited to be going and glad his friends are in it."
Five weeks ago, Bill Walters said he wasn’t sure whether his son would be enrolled in the academy.
The family arrived at 4:57 a.m. on March 5 at the Central Administration building for the first-come, first-served registration when enrollment applications were accepted at 8 a.m. for the first 50 of the 125 slots.
