PG&E makes big donation to new high school

A portion of the new high school in the Lucia Mar Unified School District will be named in honor of Pacific Gas and Electric Co., which provided a $250,000 donation to make opening the school this fall possible.

The main building at Central Coast New Tech High School on the south side of the Nipomo High School campus will be called the PG&E Center for Learning, Superintendent Jim Hogeboom announced today at the school's noon groundbreaking ceremony.

The donation was presented to the Lucia Mar Foundation for Innovation (LMFI), a group of parents and community members who have raised funds for New Tech and other innovative district projects since last summer.

Hogeboom had previously said a local donor - revealed today as PG&E - had kicked in a donation that put LMFI totals at more than $300,000.
