School Profile:

Bloomington New Tech (BNT) is a stand-alone autonomous school located in Bloomington, Indiana. Aided by strong community support, Cook Medical led the charge of local businesses that supported BNT and continues to give time and resources to ensure Bloomington New Tech is a success. The development of BNT has been seen as part of a large community effort to revitalize the neighborhoods located in West Bloomington through public and private support.

In 2004, the Monroe County School Corporation embarked on a high school redesign journey. Parents, students, educators and the larger community came together with the desire to launch an innovative new high school — Bloomington New Tech, based on the New Tech Network model.

Opened in fall 2008, Bloomington puts students in charge of their own learning and places an emphasis on preparing them for a world where 21st-century skills are vital to success. At Bloomington, we view our teachers as facilitators who guide students in learning.

In additional to receiving a world-class education, every graduating student must complete an internship, services learning hours and 12 college credits.

Noteworthy programs and successes:
  • Sophomores earn up to nine college credits
  • 50 community partners assist in projects and program development

  • Students exceeded national norm on NWEA for language usage, reading and math (2008-09 school year)
