The Satellite Center offers specialized classes to 11th and 12th graders enrolled at nearby Hahnville High and Destrehan High. Our focus is on preparing students for career paths that are projected to expand the most over the next decade.
The Satellite Center was made possible in 2001, when a $28 million bond was approved by the voters of St. Charles Parish for school improvements. St. Charles Parish business owners, community leaders, educators, representatives from Fortune 500 companies and expert advisers zeroed in on one goal — to build a learning center that prepared students for the real world.
The Satellite Center offers either morning or afternoon sessions to qualifying juniors and seniors. Students, referred to as “team members,” are placed in a career-themed learning community. We offer five career pathways: Applied Science & Technology, Education & Human Development, Health Science, Hospitality & Tourism, and Technology & Communications.
At the Satellite Center, team members learn how to use tools vital to workplace productivity. They have access to state-of-the-art labs and equipment. Team members also interact with other departments to complete projects. They experience a multi-tasking, technology-driven world incorporating 21st-century skills, similar to the one in which they will live and work.
