School Profile:
In August 2011, the Academy of Global Studies @ Winton Woods High School will open its doors to students in Grade 9. AGS is part of the Winton Woods City School District, and partners with the New Tech Network and the International Studies Schools Network.
The Academy of Global Studies @ Winton Woods High School, through a technology-infused environment, will enable students to:
• Compete in the global society through an education that promotes the 21st century skills of critical thinking; collaborative teamwork; creative problem-solving; and communication.
• Connect with other people, cultures, and ideas through an education that promotes real-world experiences: international projects with an emphasis on current world issues; technology, travel, and student exchanges; and global experiences that teach responsibility for ethical decision-making.
• Cooperate with others to solve problems of mutual interest through an education that promotes cross-cultural exploration: analysis and evaluation of global issues from multiple perspectives; an investigation of how the world’s people and institutions are interconnected; and effective communication in English and a second language.
Students in AGS study a standards-based curriculum that will prepare them to meet the requirements of the new Ohio Core Standards in English Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Students are required to study four years of Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Global themes will be integrated
in an interdisciplinary fashion through a Project-Based Learning (PBL) environment. Students will also take a yearly Global Seminar course, as well as complete a Senior Capstone requirement and fulfill service hours.
