In 2011, the Lima City School District with the support of a state School Improvement Grant began the transformation of Lima Senior Progressive Academy to the Lima Senior Progressive Academy NewTech. Progressive NewTech is one of three small autonomous high schools that share a building. All graduates fulfill state requirements for an Ohio Diploma or an Ohio Honors Diploma. Students also can accrue college credit through dual enrollment partnerships with local universities and colleges. Through Senior Projects, service learning and internships with community partners, students can gain real-world experience and explore possible careers.
The Progressive Academy NewTech is working to create a collaborative learning community that will involve students, parents and community partners in a supportive and rigorous educational environment. Our major goal is to insure that all students acquire the skills necessary for success in the 21st Century global community. Our school community understands that our students need social and emotional as well as academic support. We are developing a school climate with social and emotional support systems that will enable all of our students to engage in and assume responsibility for rigorous and collaborative learning.
Progressive NewTech provides a technological environment similar to the 21st Century workplace with a 1:1 laptop computer to student ratio and a fully wireless campus. Additionally, an iMac lab provides opportunities for students to create original and professional presentations as well as publications for school and community as they demonstrate learning through presentations to staff, community and educational partners.
