School Profile:
Taylor Titan New Tech High School in Taylor Community School Corporation, Howard County, opened its doors in August 2010 to 123 ninth grade students as they began a whole-school transformation into the New Tech model.
A project-based curriculum with an emphasis on promoting 21st century skills will be the cornerstone for student learning and assessment. Each successive year will bring an additional grade level on board with a total school conversion slated for the fall of 2013.
Seven teachers will be teaching students in this transformation which will include 2 integrated courses in 2010. PR events included a local talk radio program featuring the school that included the superintendent, principal and 2 teachers as well as a New Tech Billboard in Kokomo.
Noteworthy programs and successes:
Taylor High School has made AYP the past three consecutive years and is fully accredited by NCA. Taylor High School was awarded Indiana Best Buy Status for 2009 for outstanding student achievement based on per pupil cost to the tax payer. Student attendance and graduation rates have been among the most improved in the State of Indiana for 2008-09 and 2009-10.
