School Profile:

Tech Valley High School’s mission is to prepare students with the skills necessary to be successful in college and tomorrow’s workforce. Our standards-based education emphasizes the acquisition of 21st-century skills in a project-based learning environment.

We are a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) school that benefits from our location on the resource-rich campus of University at Albany. Students receive a well-rounded education, including courses in English, social studies, foreign language, art and physical education. Graduating students meet or exceed all state educational requirements. Many students take courses that qualify them for college credit.

Technology is central to every student’s education. Each student is provided with a computer and network access. Students learn with — and from — technology, whether producing a video or completing a project online from home with their classmates.

Thanks to partnerships with higher education institutes, businesses and the local community, lessons taught at Tech Valley are constantly updated to remain relevant to the students. Students also receive unique opportunities to visit laboratories and workplaces and benefit from interactions with business and community leaders.

Students are evaluated not only on how well they learn the subject matter, but also on their progress towards achieving 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communications, creativity, information and media literacy and contextual learning.
Evaluations allow a full understanding of students’ strengths and weaknesses and give parents and teachers guidance in how to tailor each student's academic program.

  • 70% of sophomore students (June 2009) scored “distinction” or above on Living Environment (biology) and Global History and Geography NY State Regents exams
